BREAKING NEWS LIVE | Ramaphosa says he is 'happy' South Africans did not participate in EFF shutdown
President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is happy that South Africans did not heed the call by the EFF to shut down the country on Monday.
Speaking on Tuesday during Human Rights Day celebrations in De Aar, Northern Cape, Ramaphosa took a swipe at the EFF shutdown, saying that it sought to undermine and "abuse the rights of others, intimidate them and compel them to participate in protests".
"I am happy that the majority of South Africans did not heed the call, but they exercised their right as South Africans," said Ramaphosa.
